TV Hot Spot: The New Adventures Of Old Christine

The New Adventures Of Old Christine 2x13:
Ritchie Scores

Review by: Sal

Hello readers. This is my second review for the day, and the honour goes to "The New Adventures of Old Christine". It is their 13th episode of the season and the series is still going strong. Although Julia didn't win her Golden Globe nomination she is still delivering one of the best characters seen on TV. Plus, she already has one Golden Globe which she won last year, so she shouldn't be too worried if the awards didn't go in her favour.

Ok so for the ratings of the episode. The 13th episode managed to bring in around 9.6 Million Viewers. This honestly is the weakest number of viewers watching the show in the whole of season 2. This is probably because of the "Golden Globes" which was airing at the same time and managed to steal some viewers. But nevertheless, the episode still gave us a good half an hour of laughs.

This is the summary of the episode:

Christine convinces Matthew to let her go with him to his friend's party. Once there, she learns about her brother's world outside of their home, which includes some colorful friends and a pretty ex-girlfriend. Intent on being a helpful sister, she takes it upon herself to meddle in his love life. Meanwhile, Richard tries to get Ritchie interested in his job as a contractor.

Right, so as the summary claims Christine in this episode gets a preview of what Matthew's life is really like. This was done very well by the writers because they gave us a look into his life as well. For our knowledge we only saw Matthew in the house and never looked at what he is like outside the house and not helping his sister out of embarassing situations. So in the episode we got to see some of his friends, and the way they have fun. We also got to see a special lady who broke up with Matthew a few years ago. Christine, being herself, tries to help but that doesn't work out as well as she hoped. With her humour and Matthew's stuttering-nature, they amused us throughout the episode.

On the other side is Richard. After hearing that Ritchie wants to own a women's gym when he gets older, Richard quickly comes to the rescue and tries to show Ritchie the life of a contractor. After an 'accident' with Ritchie at a previous trip to Richard's office, Ritchie isn't very keen when his father surprised him with another visit. This little storyline which was also pushed into the episode was hilarious and Ritchie's character has always been weird for me, I still think that the kid is going to be traumatized with these two parents (lol).

Final thoughts on the episode. It was a good one, not one of the best for this series but still managed to spark up some laughs. The next episode will air on the 22nd of January. So thank you all for reading and feel free to leave any general comments about the series.

Take Care xox
