Tom Amandes, who won numerous fans playing a doctor on "Everwood," will try to win more by playing a doctor on ABC.

Amandes has landed one of the lead roles in the Alphabet's comedy pilot "This Might Hurt," playing a set-in-his-ways physician who runs a practice with his son (Josh Dean). Missi Pyle ("Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay") and Alex Meneses ("Everybody Loves Raymond") have also joined the show, the showbiz trade papers report.

Elsewhere, Susanna Thompson ("Once and Again") has signed on to NBC's midseason series "Kings."

Amandes, who played the irascible Dr. Harold Abbott on "Everwood," is coming off a recurrng role on another ABC show, "Eli Stone." His part in "This Might Hurt" will also be that of an irascible doctor who clashes with his son over how to run the practice.

Pyle will play an OB-GYN who distrusts men. Her credits include roles on "Heroes" and "Boston Legal" and the films "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Anchorman." Meneses, meanwhile, will play the office manager, who's a former telenovela star.

At NBC, Thompson will play the queen to Ian McShane's king in "Kings," a modernized take on the biblical story of David. In addition to "Once and Again," her TV credits include roles on "NCIS," "The Book of Daniel" and the Lifetime miniseries "The Gathering."
