'Geek' Not Safe at The CW!

Post by: Sal

Source: Daily Variety

The May 13 season finale of CW reality skein "Beauty and the Geek" will likely be the show's swan song --at least for a while.
Nothing's been confirmed yet, but people close to the production confirm that CW execs have decided to put "Geek" on ice after the current season wraps. Skein may one day be revived, but only given the passage of enough time so that the format could once again seem fresh.

CW execs also may be spurred to reconsider if producers come up with a unique twist on the nerdy-guys-interacting-with-attractive-women format. One possible idea that's been discussed is changing the format to focus on age differences.

Like just about everything on the CW this season, "Geek" has suffered serious ratings slippage during its fifth season, which began March 11.

Skein -- a production of Ashton Kutcher's Katalyst, 3 Ball and Fox 21 -- was an instant ratings winner when it premiered on the now-dead WB network in 2005. It continued to do well when it migrated to the fledgling CW a year later.

"You can never be sad about a run like this," exec producer J.D. Roth told Daily Variety.

'Tyra Banks, Ashton Kutcher Team Up!

Post by: Sal

Source: Zap2It

The masterminds behind The CW's two most successful reality series will collaborate on a new project -- for ABC.

"America's Next Top Model" co-creator/host Tyra Banks and "Beauty and the Geek" executive producer Ashton Kutcher have joined forces for a new unscripted show. ABC has ordered eight episodes of the untitled project, the showbiz trade papers report.

The producers and the network are keeping quiet about the show's premise, and maybe even spreading a little bit of disinformation about it. Depending on whose account you read, the series will involve either "beautiful people living in a house together" (Variety) or "contestants competing in a beauty pageant" (Hollywood Reporter). Those concepts, of course, are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Banks is currently presiding over the 10th cycle of "America's Next Top Model," which premiered last week, and is developing another CW show that would have contestants vie for a job at a fashion magazine.

The fifth installment of "Beauty and the Geek," exec produced by Kutcher and partners Jason Goldberg and Karey Burke, debuts on March 11. Kutcher's company, Katalyst Films, also produced MTV's "Punk'd" and "Game Show in My Head," which is scheduled to debut on CBS later this year.

Meet the 'Beauty and the Geek 5' Contestants!

Post by: Sal

Source: Zap2it

Can a Playboy bunny and geeky videogame programmer see eye-to-eye? "Beauty and the Geek" returns to ask that question and more.

In the reality show's fifth season premiere, Tuesday, March 11 at 8 p.m. ET, "Beauty and the Geek" introduces nine gorgeous but academically impaired women and nine brilliant but socially challenged men.

In a new twist, the men and women won't be paired this time, but set to compete in two teams. No, not shirt vs. skins (which has tantalizing possibilities) but beauties vs. geeks.

That's right. The women will compete as a group in challenges such as plumbing pipes, while the men will have the chance to be in-studio guests on radio program "Loveline" with Dr. Drew to talk about sexual issues. Both groups will make cameos on "The Young and the Restless." At stake is a $250,000 grand prize.

The twist is a significant one since previous seasons were touted as a "social experiment" since the paired beauty/geeks learned from each other in their efforts to beat the other pairs. The beauties vs. geeks formula may change the household dynamic. Regardless of the change, a season that features a Playboy bunny, a sweater vest enthusiast, a self-proclaimed "Gaysian" and a Hooters hostess promises to be intriguing.

A list of the nine beauties and nine geeks follows:

The Beauties:

Name: Amanda ("Runway Model")
Hometown: West Warwick, Rhode Island (currently Queen Creek, Arizona)

CW Returns With Original Episodes!

Post by: Sal

Source: Zap2It

The CW may be saying goodbye to "Girlfriends", "WWE SmackDown!" and "CW Now," but several of its shows will return with all-new episodes now that the Writers' Strike has ended.

The networks announced Friday, Feb. 15 that six of its shows will once again go into production in order to air new episodes this spring, while two other shows already have episodes in the can.

"The Game" will return in late March with the most episodes, while "One Tree Hill," "Smallville," "Gossip Girl," "Reaper" and "Supernatural" will poke up their heads in April.

"Everybody Hates Chris" shot and completed episodes early, so its remaining 12 original ones will begin airing March 3. Similarly, its fellow sitcom "Aliens in America" has eight original episodes done that will air March 2-23 and April 27-18.

The CW already has some fresh material on the horizon. "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious" debuts on Monday, Feb. 18, and two days later on the Wednesday the 20th, the tenth cycle of "America's Next Top Model" premieres. In addition, the next wave of social experimenters will return with "Beauty and the Geek" on Tuesday, March 11.

TV Hot Spot: Beauty & The Geek

Beauty And The Geek: 3x05

Review by: Sal

Hey guys! I am back and ready as ever to write up the latest review for this series. Now "Beauty & The Geek" are on their 5th episode of the season, and to be very honest, I actually didn't want anyone to go. In this episode we are left with 5 teams, and then at the end 1 had to be eliminated. And while the chase was fun I kept on thinking to myself that I didn't want it to end. The chemistry in the house was so funny and is why I continue to watch it. Good news for this series, it has already been renewed for a FOURTH season and the auditions are running up in a few months.

In this episode, the guys had to teach an arobic class! While the girls had to learn electronics. But The CW felt bad for the teams and sent them to San Diego! So while resting, the guys had to press up their muscles and the girls REALLY had to work. Not only did the girls have to do 5 workouts, but when the time came for their challange they had to look for a treasure chest, set up a 'Walkey Talkey' (not sure how you spell it!) and then go onto a Kiake and row all the way to the other side of the river! They were seriously wiped out.

Ok so before I go into details about the teams, here is the ratings for the episode. Their 5th episode managed to bring in around 3.1 Million Viewers, this remains consistant with last weeks episode and I hope that the series will manage to push up again past the 4 Million mark, they honestly deserve it. Oh and adverts have already started for "America's Next Top Model" cycle 8 which will air on the 28th of February. So we will only get to see the geeks and beauties for a couple more weeks!

ELIMINATED in WEEK 5:

Drew & Erin: So this is the team that left. And even though I said in previous reviews that I didn't mind if they go, I take it back. Erin was so funny in this episode and she was really emotional when she failed in the elimination round. The only good thing about this team is that they have both grown so much during their stay in the house. By showing previous clips you could see Erin understanding the reason why she was in the house, and Drew coming out of his shell and actually facing the life the way it should be! I wish these guys all the luck...

STILL IN THE GAME:

Mario & Nadia: Competition rises. This team didn't win any of the challanges, but they managed to pull runner up in both. This effort is what got them a pass for one more week. The other two teams who did win the challanges felt that they had worked hard and deserve a pass. Still my favourite team I like how much they have bonded and I would seriously hate it to see them leave. They should step up to the plate next round. Because there are only 4 teams left.

Niels & Jennylee: Well Well! Cecille got her revenge and sent these two to the elimination round as pay back. This team saw it coming of course and actually tried to miss the chance of getting nominated by winning a challenge but failed. A tough elimination round so JennyLee getting all her questions right! This team is BACK in the game and I officially love JennyLee. Its so juicy that she likes Nate! Wonder what those two will get up to in the future! (lol)

Nate & Cecille: Cecille...Tsk Tsk Tsk! A few drinks of champagne brought out the bad side of her in this episode. She was dissing Niels just because he sent her to the elimination round. Everyone noticed it and got mad at her, even the other blondes. And like she thought, she got her revenge. BUT, JennyLee and Niels are still in the game! Nate, on the other hand, is also feeling something for JennyLee! Now this is the main reason I dont want JennyLee to leave the house. I want to know where this is headed!

Scooter & Megan: FINALLY! We get to see a bit of these two in the episode. And now, instead of wishing them to leave, I hope they stay! In this episode they admitted that they were on the low-key radar throughout the challanges and they needed to step up! And they did! By winning a challange. It was good seeing Megan have her say in things and actually comment on a lot of things that happened in the house. I guess, now because more teams are leaving the series can focus on each team more.

Well as you can see its REALLY confusing for me to pick who I want to win. It would still probably be Mario and Nadia, but I like all the other teams too! Next episode will be so hard to watch! Thanks for reading everyone!

TV Hot Spot: Beauty & The Geek

Beauty And The Geek: 3x04

Review by: Sal

Hello everyone! We are 4 episodes into the season and I think we can all see that its getting even jucier. Today's episode was mainly about a makeover for the geeks and may I say what a turnaround. Shows what a little makeover can do to someone. And while the geeks were busy with that, the beauties were working at home and studying Marketing. As the tension rises, we see that one beauty has a crush on one of the geeks. So before I get on with each teams review, I will start off with the ratings for the episode. The episode managed to bring in around 3.1 Million Viewers! This is obviously down from last week but was mainly due to the airing of "American Idol". Hopefully next week this series will pick up its numbers due to "American Idol" shifting its airtime. So lets cross our fingers for this series!

ELIMINATED in WEEK 3:

Andrea & Matt: Yup...As I thought. This team was going. Andrea's strong performance affected her team more than she thought. Not only did the blondes hate her, but now that they saw she was a tough candidate they all decided to sack her. And after a tough match, they did. Although I did like how Andrea stood up to JennyLee and told her how she really felt....Matt, on the other hand, I didn't see much use of him in the whole episode! So no feelings for him sadly...

STILL IN THE GAME:

Mario & Nadia: Still my favourite group! I love how this team goes together so well. Nadia is such a sweet person and doesn't really click with the other girls as much which proves that she is different, which is a good thing. In this episode, I felt bad for Mario because of how he felt towards his size and looks. But with Nadia's support, Mario's self-esteem has risen! Hopefully next week we will see this team getting stronger!

Niels & Jennylee: Who knew Niels was not so geeky after all. With the makeover and the confidence, I wouldn't call him a geek anymore. JennyLee reveals a big secret too, that she actually has a crush on Nate, who I am glad still stayed because I want to see what is going to happen next with her and him. She doesn't annoy me as much anymore and Niels seems like an ok guy. A bit sensitive though, as we saw in the end of the episode!

Nate & Cecille: This team was sent to the elimination match but won! Strong Cecille proved the other blondes wrong by getting all her questions right. Still my second favourite team, Nate came out again not looking like a geek! With his makeover, and shaved beard I wouldn't call Nate a geek anymore. And I agree with JennyLee, Nate's personality is very important to the household, he actually is a unique kind of guy. Brings the humour to the house!

Drew & Erin: Hmm still unsure about this team. I liked the way the team are getting along, but we didn't see much of them in the episode. I still wouldn't mind seeing them go because this team doesnt really do anything for me!

Scooter & Megan: Like Erin and Drew I dont know about this team. No thoughts towards them. I just wouldnt mind seeing them go. Like my previous reviews, Scooter annoys me a little and I feel that they dont have any use in the house. Even Megan...she just seems plain lazy!

Ok so thats about it from me. The next episode will air on the 24th of January. So lets wait and see what is in store for next week!

Take Care!
