TV Hot Spot: Ghost Whisperer

Ghost Whisperer Episode 11: Cat's Claw

Review by: Sal

Hey guys. Hope you are all doing well as the Christmas day approaches. So for today I have my first review which is being posted for "Ghost Whisperer", which will be followed by two more reviews for "Justice" and the latest episode of "The O.C." by Ben (our new host). So giving that a thought, let us begin the review with the ratings for this 11th episode of Ghost Whisperer. It ranked a 6.1/11, and brought it around 9.6 Million Viewers. This is slightly down from last week, but shouldn't be something to worry about. This series has been on hiatus for the past 2 weeks, and so might have been a part of that slight dip in the number of viewers. The next episode is scheduled to air on the 5th of January 2007. Meaning another 2 week hiatus, until the next fresh episode. But for now, let me begin the review for the episode.

Now while watching, I was writing a few bullet points which I will go through in the review one by one. The first point was about the opener for the episode. I really liked it, and how they always manage to make the openings so mysterious and full of suspense. The creator of this series was smart because he gave a chance for the writers to continue on with the episodes. Other series which involve the supernatural tend to repeat some of their previous storylines, but not for this series. Although only 2 seasons on, this series has managed to use many different aspects of this genre and maintained their number of viewers and fans tuning in. A great skill for a great show.

Second point was that I wanted to give credit to the special effects crew. A few shows out there at this point initiate with effects such as these. We have seen it in previous episodes, where a ghost takes Melinda on a journey and make her vision where they had passed away. In this episode we see Melinda in a jungle, and it was tense. It was real for her, where she actually felt like she was in that jungle. It makes me wonder whether this power Melinda has is more than we think. It enables her to vision the past (sort of) and see how the spirit has passed. Thats pretty powerful for someone to have. I hope the writers emphasise more on her abilities. Maybe make them grow in a way?

Third point was the two new characters this season. Delia, the replacement of Andrea was done well. At first I thought about the possibilty, but pushed it away. And now, 11 episodes later, Delia is now a partner with Melinda and it is like a second-Andrea. I like this character because she is funnier to be honest, and brings a bit of comedic effect to the show itself. Another character which I enjoy watching is Proffessor Payne. Although I wish the writers put him in more episodes, and make use of him more. I loved this episode because Melinda finally confessed to Payne about her ability. I just wish the writers take this chance and use this character to his limit. Make him help Melinda in her cases with spirits and actually take part in helping her with some of them. We also got to look at a bit of his background. Seeing that he is married, although something tells me there is more to it. I dont think he is living a happy married life.

And finally, my final point is to comment on the storyline. Now not many shows give you a taste of something coming every episode. It is usually one spirit at a time, which is fine by me. Although as a mid-season finale, I would have hoped for something bigger. Although, this doesn't mean that the writers didn't leave us with something to think about. If you remember last season's mid-season finale, had Melinda staring at Romano (Evil Hat Guy). And we were left wondering about his character. This episode, even though didnt have a shocker ending, did include Romano in a way. Where a hat was left for Melinda? And over the past few episodes you could see hints of things that were going wrong here and there. Remember that Romano is still out there somewhere. Recruiting spirits. So I wouldn't be surprised if he were to come back.

Ok guys. So my overall thoughts on the episode was that it was good to watch. The suspense was there as usual which I have to give credit to the writers for. The characters still have their great interaction. Especially Melinda & Jim, these two fit the married-role perfectly. And finally the fact that the creator & writers still manage to publish something new into each episode is amazing. They still gain their numbers of viewers and still keep us interested. So until the next new episode, on the 5th of Jan., Thanks for reading!

Take Care
