TV Hot Spot: Justice
Justice Episode 9: Shotgun
Review by: Sal
Hey readers. This review will be about the FOX networks still surviving show "Justice". A show which many have criticized, although I dont see why. Being there for episode 1 I have grown to like this show considerably due to the fact of its modern-look. I am not a usual fan of series which revolve around lawyers, but this series caught my attention and continues to amuse me throughout the season. Its mysterious, the cast are strong, and the writing and special effects are awesome. So I ask, why is this show probably going to face a cancellation?
The first episode marked a stable rating, but as the episodes go by the ratings began to fall. The show slowly suffered and nobody could pin-point exactly why. FOX then decided to order 13 episodes of the series, and a few more scripts. They decided to pull the show from November sweeps and re-premier it in December, on their new timeslot on Fridays. So, firstly looking at the ratings the latest episode recieved a 3.0/5, which means around 4.5 Million Viewers. Now the episode didnt do awful, it just did bad. Not sure if this show will live to see the end of the season, all we have to do is wait...So on with the review!
We start the episode as usual. A murder taking place. I love how the show includes this, and it always keeps me on the edge of my seat. Throughout the episode they manage to fit in alot of different stories which keeps your mind wondering about who the killer really is, and how it links to their story. This episode, Tom, one of the partners of TTNG is head of the case. Ive always liked Kerr Smith ever since his guest star appearance on 'Charmed' and in this series, his acting abilities are clearly shown.
Obviously Tom takes on the case mainly because he knows this particular victim. Someone who works at the lawfirm as a valley guy. Tom wishes to do the case for free and prove his client innocent. Luther and Alden dont seem keen on this assignment, but go with it anyway. And for once, we dont see alot of Ron Trott. Even though he is the highlight of the show in most cases, it was nice to see the writers give us viewers a chance to see the other partners go at a case alone.
The episode continues to change the viewers mind on whether there was a murder or not in the first place. The lawyers then introduce the assumption of a suicide, which ends up getting their client a non-guilty sentence. As usual the episode kept me on the egde of my seat, awaiting that last statement. You gotta love it.
Finally, I have to comment on the special effects of this series as a whole. The cast in the series are awesome, but the special effects win me over to. When they go through with each case they introduce little effects here and there which always amuse me. In this episode for example, as the lawyers talk about the jury people, a special effects crew behind the scenes works out a way for us to visualize what the lawyers are saying better. It always helps when that happens because it gives us an inside look into the case as well instead of just words.
So final thoughts on the episode. Great acting, great writing and great effects. This series knows how to include and interact with their viewers very well from my point of view. Whether or not it will live to see more than just 13 episodes is not up to me, but with the ratings it currently is recieving it definetely looks that way. I just hope FOX promotes it right so that it could finally get the attention it deserves. Thanks for reading! Comments will be appreciated!
Take Care
