TV Hot Spot:Brothers & Sisters
Brothers & Sisters Episode 10: Light The Lights (Mid-Season Finale)
Review by: Sal & Shai
Sal: Hey everyone. Me and Shai are here and we are about to review the mid-season finale of the series "Brothers & Sisters". Now this ABC series has been criticized and praised by many. Some saying that it is lead-in "dependent" seeing as it had "Desperate Housewives" before it and most thought that the success of this series was mainly because of that. But this week, we see that this is mainly not true. Yes "Brothers & Sisters" didn't do as well as they usually do, but they managed bring in 10.5 Million Viewers this week! So that is good for the show and I know that ABC recognizes this as it's next hit mainly because ABC is desperate for another one (lol). Ok so now that the ratings were pushed over I guess we could go to Shai now who will begin our review.
Shai: Hey Sal. Ok I guess I can start off the review by saying that this mid-season finale was excellent. I loved it and enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. Now I have my own points and views about different things but I guess we will get to them shortly in more detail. Of course the first thing I would like to pick out is that my favourite character in this episode was Nora. How brave was she to go and do that to Holly? Actually forgive her. That was an emotional scene for the both of them. Although I have to say that I dislike Holly. Alot! (Maybe because I disliked the actress in Prison Break as well lol!).
Sal: Oh yah! I loved the cast in this episode as well. We managed to see a bit of each of course, and it was a special christmas/hannakah episode. I actually thought of the upcoming "The O.C." episode for a second there (lol). But the character I liked best in this episode was Sarah. When she wanted to buyout Holly and the way she reacted to it afterwards was amazing. The acting was believable and I simply loved her character in this. Dont get me wrong Nora and the others were great too. But in this episode I would have to give the title of Best Actor/Actress to Sarah. She did a wonderful job standing up for the role.
Shai: Ok so I guess we can now go on to the Justin storyline. The writers here make us feel like all hope is lost, and we find out that the verdict for him to go back to Iraq was pushed away and he had to return as soon as possible. At that point I felt really bad for him and I actually didnt want him to go. But then we find out that he is allowed to stay for another 6 months which I was so happy about. I knew they couldn't end a Christmas episode with a sad ending! Oh and one more thing, we have to thank the writers because they made Kevin suit the role of being a lawyer perfectly. I think it is the first time we see him in a proper court case. And it was so realistic and I think he did an awesome job to be honest.
Sal: Speaking about storylines. This episode didn't have an amazing hook. But the writers decided to spin in a bit of the 'Rebecca' & 'Holly' storyline into it. Sarah, Saul & Thomas find out that Holly is signed to about 10 Million Dollars worth of that land. And how the writers wrote that out was amazing. It just brought them together I think. At first I thought that these two families will never get along, even though the writers didn't exactly make this clear but I think there is a slight chance of where these families will be ok together.
Shai: Yah I agree with you on that. The episode didn't include suspense like the other episodes did. But it managed to be one of the best episodes just because of the writing. Now seeing as it was the mid-season finale, I was expecting a good episode and got it in return. Oh and I think I should mention the storyline with Kitty. Apparently her producer wants her to be a solo host of the "Red, White & Blue" and of course she replies with a 'No' Not a direct no, but she didnt say it in the end. I thought that was smart of her. To be honest I think she should go and take the offer from that senator. She would probably be better off to be honest.
Sal: Ok so I guess we can round off the review. I think we covered the main areas of the episode. What I like about this series the most, as a whole, is that it really represents its title "Brothers & Sisters". Thanks to the cast and the great writers they make you believe that this is a real family who really fit together. I love the funny lines that they give each of the cast, and boy was that last scene of the episode emotional or what? Again bravo to everyone who worked on this episode, as well as the director who got a few good shots of each of the cast. The ending was great and I honestly cant wait for the next episode which I think is going to air on the 7th of January 2007. So not long to go! Thanks for being here Shai!
Shai: Wow another review done. And it was my pleasure Sal. Hope you arrive home safely this weekend (Sorry off-topic). Anyway Thanks for reading everyone & feel free to leave us any comments.
Take Care & Merry X-Mas!
