TV Hot Spot: Brothers & Sisters
Brothers & Sisters 1x13: Something Ida This Way Comes
Review by: Sal
Hey everyone. I am about to review this last episode before I head to bed, so before that happens I thought I would squeeze this in! So this ABC series has been called "Lead-in" dependent over the past few weeks, mainly because the ABC network has kept it solid after new episodes of "Desperate Housewives". That may be the case, but "Brothers & Sisters" is proving more and more that it does belong in this industry. Their 13th episode of the season managed to hold in most of the viewers that watched the episode of "Desperate Housewives" which aired right before it. Renewed for a full season and still on hold for a second season, this series keeps on proving people wrong that it does belong and that it does have a strong fanbase. This show can also be called as my favourite new show on TV.
So for the ratings of the episode. This episode managed to bring in around 12 Million Viewers. Looking at previous numbers, this average isn't so bad and mainly is around the margin of where their viewers lie in the USA. Hopefully the season will pick up mainly because "Brothers & Sisters" deserves so much more! The writing is one of the best I have ever seen and the cast...I mean...Just look at the cast and you will probably change your mind about this show. The show gets the upmost respect from me and I think I should finally begin with the review of the episode. Remember that the episode circulated around Nora's 60th birthday bash.
So in this episode we see the whole family plan a surprise birthday party for their mother. Saul is also included and invites a special guest that Nora doesn't like to see. So lets go one by one with these characters. Kevin, our first character, moves on with his relationship with his celebrity boyfriend. However, he cant flash his new romance in the public mainly because it would be career suicide for the actor (his boyfriend) to state his sexuality in TV World. So everything is underwraps and they both manage to find a way out of it. Kevin is uncomfortable of course because he is usually the one who lets his date down, not the other way around. I don't know exactly how the writers are going to spin this but at least Kevin is happy...or is he?
Second character, Kitty. Hmm the Senator and Kitty. What can I say? I guess we can all see sparks flying around, but that doesn't mean Kitty goes for it. She is holding to her vow that she kept with her mom to stay Man-free for a while. But apparently when that is over, she wouldn't mind taking our Senator out for a date. Does this mean that they are going to be a celebrity couple or something. The best thing about this episode is the interaction of Kitty and Kevin. They are hilarious and with every line that came out of their mouths made me die of laughter. Their smart remarks about eachothers boyfriends. Pure and Class Brothers & Sisters!
Thom & Justin, the other two brothers. In this episode we don't get to see much of their storylines, well more Justin than Thom. Last episode we got to see a look into Thom's personal life and in this episode I guess the writers felt they needed to shine some light on Justin. Thomas goes and picks Justin up from Rehab to go to his mothers birthday party. While there Justin goes and meets Tyler only to find out that she has moved on and found herself a boyfriend. I feel so bad for Justin, but in a way, he was an addict and needed help. He also reminded all of us (the fans) that he will be leaving for Iraq soon as well. Poor Justin!
Sarah, the final sister, was very naughty in this episode. At first she was the main planner of this party but soon fell into a victim of a flue. And thats not all! She and Joe got it on infront of a recorded camera and it was accidently seen on the tape for her mother's birthday tribute. I laughed my head off when I saw that and felt so bad for the couple. But oh well, thats drama for you. Or wait is that comedy? Anyway, the couple seem to be having fun and the writers wanted us to see that in this episode.
Other things which went on and didn't go on. We didn't get to see Holly in this episode although she was mentioned slightly. Nothing important though. Nora's mother turned out to be a bigger thing than we all thought, including Nora. Turns out her mother is proud of her and reveals that all this time she has envied the way Nora had turned out. I feel it put their bond closer together. Even though the writers didn't let us look into their relationship more, I feel Nora is such a strong character and has gone through so much. She truly is an amazing person (If Real lol).
Ok so I guess that is all from me for tonight. The episode was hilarious as ever and is exactly why I watch the series. I love the fact that the series is still going on and going strong. ABC did a wise thing by renewing it for a full season. The writing is excellent and the cast is even better. Thank you all for reading!
Take Care xox
