TV Hot Spot: The O.C.

The O.C. 4x09: My Two Dads

Review by: Sal

Hey everyone. Well sad news for this series, the FOX network has finally announced that "The O.C." is on its final season and will air its final episode in February. "The O.C." is a series that saved FOX back in the day, and has now become one of its lowest watched shows. The network has decided to keep it on its fourth season just because of its fanbase and not on the ratings. The FOX network is on its last limbs, waiting for its saviour "American Idol" to begin so that the network could bring in the ratings, but until then the network will suffer. Besides that, I guess I can start off the review with the ratings for the latest episode. The 9th episode of the season brought in around 4 Million Viewers. This is less than the past few episodes and, I for one, believe that the show shouldn't have taken that one week break.

"The O.C." is in a too fragile state to take that risk, and now has to suffer the consequences. This episode started with one of the shocker endings we had in the previous episode. The Seth & Summer engagement. Isn't it weird seeing these two act together when in reality they had just broken off their engagement. Ironic? But putting that aside, the comedic humour is brought to us as Seth & Summer begin to panic about the engagement to Taylor and Ryan. Neither one of them wants to get married and felt it was a good thing to do at the spurr of the moment. And now that Summer isn't pregnant, both are having second thoughts...

The episode then goes into their relationship and decideds to show it as a showdown. Instead of not wanting it, and finding a way to coward their way out. Seth & Summer have now made it a battle field, and now both of them are going to extreme measures to scare the other side into backing out. A line I loved in the episode was when Summer said, "Im going to go all Bridezilla on his ass!" (lol!). I like how the writers are finally adding something interesting to this couple. Over the past seasons we have seen them break up and make up a dozen times and now they actually have a relationship problem that they both want to solve. This is why I watch this series!

Another shocker we have looked at during this episode is Ryan's father. Franc Atwood. Who apparently starts off by saying that he wants to see his son. After Ryan denies him the chance, Franc comes up with a story that he is dying which soon Sandy finds out is a lie. The whole drama issue rises, and what starts out as akward ends very badly. Franc is welcomed to a dinner, and Ryan actually likes the new-father figure he sees infront of him. Sandy is his usual protective self, and you actually see him and Franc hit it out. The writers are showing us that Ryan's father has changed, but maybe not as much as he says he did. I didn't expect him to leave again at the end and thought he would have stayed...

Something I wanted to mention in this episode was the bond between Taylor and Ryan. It has grown so much during the past few episodes and you actually see them liking each others company. Who would have known that these two, out of all the people in "The O.C.", would get together in the end. And above all, who thought it would work!! Anyway, I for one enjoy seeing these two together and would actually be really angry if the writers do anything to break it off...I mean the season is ending, and they only have 7 more episodes to go!!

Ok so I think I rounded up most of the episode, ah yes! Kaitlin! You guys sure noticed Chris Brown is in the episode of course, and actually gets a recurring role believe it or not. Looks like the bad girl Kaitlin Cooper actually isn't so bad. If you remember my last review I stated that Kaitlin isn't as bad as she seems and I was right. She was playing dumb in class, and then the writers showed us that she was really this kind, and smart person...deep down (lol). Could she be falling in love with Chris Brown's character. Forgot his name now....

Phew. I think I ran through most of the episodes details. Not alot of Julie in this episode, but her giving advice to Summer was so funny. "Khutsba" or something like that. Not sure exactly how you spell it. So overall thoughts on the episode, I loved it. I think the episodes continue to bring laughs to the audience and that the writers are sort of heading in the right direction. Although I wonder how they are going to end the series.

P.S. Rumours are going around that another network (The CW) might pick up "The O.C." for a 5th season. I would love to see that happen because I really like the series!

the oc shouldnt be cancled, the show helped fox so fox should give them more time, its difficult for the show to do better when its put on the same time slot as greys anatomy and csi. I hope the CW takes the OC up for another season because the show deserves it, and im sure it will do great

Hey Javier,

I agree with you completely. When news came out of the cancellation I was seriously annoyed. I love The O.C. and think it deserves to be treated much better by FOX. The show has been so good this season and deserves another chance. Sadly I dont think that is going to happen, but news about a 5th season being picked up by another network (probably The CW) is still going around! So lets cross our fingers!
