Jon Stewart Staying at Comedy Central
Post by: Sal
Put those "Jon Stewart Wants a Network Job" stories on hold until at least 2010.
Comedy Central announced on Thursday (Oct. 18) afternoon that the Emmy-winning host and executive producer of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" has reached a contract extension to keep him with the cable network through 2010.
"I love doing this show," Stewart says in a statement. "I feel like I work with and for the best in the business. I look forward to using this extension to having great fun at President Colbert's expense."
Stewart won't just be cracking wise on the hypothetical administration of his former "Daily Show" wingman. The "Death to Smoochy" star's new pact includes his shingle Busboy Productions Inc., which is behind both "The Colbert Report" and the summer 2008 series "Important Things with Demetri Martin."
Formerly set to become a free agent at the end of 2008, Stewart has been regularly linked to all manner of network late night gigs. Not so fast.
"Jon Stewart is an extraordinary talent and Comedy Central is extremely fortunate that he will continue to lead 'The Daily Show' team through 2010," says Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless. "Since joining the show in 1999, Jon has transformed 'The Daily Show' into the most consistently funny, thought-provoking and potent political satire of our time and we are thrilled to extend our partnership with Jon and his company, Busboy Productions."
Take Care,
Sal
