NBC has no new "Saturday Night Live" episodes in its immediate future, so it's turning to old ones -- and filling out its prime-time schedule in the process.
Starting Saturday (Dec. 8), the network will run a series of 90-minute "Best of" specials at 9:30 p.m. ET Saturdays. First up will be "The Best of Will Ferrell," showcasing the seven-year regular in sketches featuring his Alex Trebek, the Spartan cheerleaders and "More Cowbell," among others.
"The Best of Chris Farley" -- Superfans, "The Chris Farley Show," Matt Foley and the Chippendale's audition -- will follow on Dec. 15. On Dec. 22, NBC will showcase the best material from 2006-07, including the Emmy-winning digital short "D**k in a Box," moments from "Weekend Update" and sketches featuring hosts Peyton Manning and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The set will conclude on Dec. 29 with "Saturday Night Live Goes Commercial," a compilation of the show's best ad parodies, going back to the Belushi-Aykroyd days.
As for the actual late-night show, NBC is scheduling repeats week-to-week during the writers' strike. Up Saturday is a rebroadcast of a December 2005 show with host Jack Black and musical guest Neil Young.
Take Care,
Sal
