Lucky 13: FOX Renews 'King of the Hill'!
Post by: Sal
FOX has given a 13-episode order to the animated comedy "King of the Hill," bringing the series back for its 13th season.
The somewhat limited order shouldn't be taken as a bad sign for proud Texans Hank, Peggy and Bobby Hill. FOX has reliably left "King of the Hill" in renewal limbo only to realize the value of its stead, albeit unspectacular, performances on Sunday night for well over a decade.
All of the show's core vocal castmembers -- including Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Brittany Murphy, Tom Petty, Johnny Hardwick and Stephen Root -- are expected to return.
Created by Judge, "King of the Hill" has had the second longest run of any animated program in primetime history. Only "The Simpsons" has lasted longer.
"King of the Hill" won the 1999 Emmy for outstanding animated program.
Sunday night fall football preemptions and overruns have often made it difficult to accurately assess the ratings for "King of the Hill" and FOX even experimented with holding the premiere back to January for its 11th season before returning to a fall premiere this year.
FOX will hold the 13th season premiere until early 2009 and while the initial order will be for 13 episodes, FOX reportedly has options to extend that order as required.
