TV Hot Spot: The Game
The Game Episode 10: There's No Place Like Home
Review by: Sal
As the title states, and the time draws near. This episode was about how Melanie & Derwin celebrate their first christmas together. Even though it had just lasted 20 odd minutes, I would have to say that the writers do a good job at clearing out the message for the fans. The time span was the only thing that got me criticizing the episode, but before I go on. I would just like to comment on "The Game"'s ratings for their latest episode. The episode scored around 3 Million Viewers last night. Which is amazing for the series and marks its highest ratings this season. From a show that has just started on the CW this is awesome for them, it was a wise decision to keep this series and not scrap it.
On the CW Mondays, there are four urban comedies which are great in their own way. "Girlfriends" being the lead-in to this series continues to give the same results but fails to grow. If they do grow, then "The Game" might even get a bigger audience and become another hit. The show is designed in a simple manner, with a wonderful and funnny cast. It is not considered a hit as of yet, but has great potential which is proved in the ratings as well.
Ok so now for the episode. In this christmas episode we see Melanie & Derwin spending their first christmas. At first the writers make them have a fued, and Melanie cheers for an all-family christmas gathering. Derwin, on the other hand, doesn't seem so eager and asks to stay in SanDiego. This of course means that the two will part ways. Now of course, I could see this coming, and that was that the two will end up together before the episode ends. It was just relevant considering it's a Christmas episode.
I like the way the writers have made these characters grow. Each week we see a bit more into their background. In this case, we see Melanie's family and here is where it gets interesting. You know the old saying "All girls marry their fathers". Well in this case it works. Because even at Christmas Eve, Melanie's dad has to go to work (He is a doctor). And Melanie realizes that her mom is very similar to her. NOW it makes sense why her mom doesn't want her to stay with Derwin. Because she doesnt want her daughter to end up like her. Which again represents family. Which was very well done by the writers.
The only thing I have to criticiz is two things. The first being the time span. I know they only had 20 minutes, but I felt the show was a bit rushed. But as long as I got the message, then I consider it a well-written episode. Another thing is the other cast members. They were hilarious, but then again some people say that they are useless to the show. I hardly think so, because most of the funny lines were from them. I love the 'Sun-Beams' (lol)!
Final thoughts. I liked the episode. Although not as funny as the last one, this one had a warm message to send to it's viewers. So I hope you enjoyed reading this review. One more will be coming up which is for the new ABC series "Big Day". So comments will be appreciated!
Take Care!
