TV Hot Spot: King Of Queens
King Of Queens Episode 3 & 4 (Season 9): Moxie Moron & Major Disturbance
Review by: Sal
Hey everyone. This is your TV Hot Spot host, posting my first review since I finally arrived home for my winter break. Now that I am fully relaxed and moved in I guess I can begin with my first review of the day. Remember that there are two more reviews coming your way, from me, Shai & Ben! So stay tuned for those. But for now, I guess we can start off the ratings for these two episodes. Now for the one hour range, these episodes averaged around 9.1 Million Viewers. This is down from last week's average but is still a strong show. Seeing that most shows are on repeats, this show actually proves to be a solid performer. Renewing it for a 9th season was definetly a good choice.
Right, so I guess I can start with the episode summaries. Now for the first episode, we take a further look into both Doug & Carrie's work lives. During this episode, Doug is told by his manager that him and Deacon have to decide who will be superviser while he is in rehab. At first Doug denies the position and hands it over to Deacon who actually manages everything really well. Now Doug is the funniest character on TV these days and it was sad to see him lose that emmy award nomination this year. But besides that the writers have made his character come more to life every episode. You could never tell what Doug's next move is going to be. So after telling what had happened in work today to Carrie, Doug soon realises that he has to take the supervisor position to prove to Carrie that she is wrong and that Doug is not just a 'Delivery man'.
How they use this in the episode is funny because it shows you how Doug thinks, and actually shows how Carrie reacts to his decisions. Whether she meant it or not, Doug went for the supervisor job and tried to replace Deacon. After everything went wrong, Doug got suspended from his job (lol). Carrie, joins Doug on the suspension list after she tries to stand up to her boss. Carrie soon learns that it takes "Maksi" in order to step up the corporate ladder. And its quite funny to see how she deals with that. Obviously not very well seeing as she gets suspended at the end of the episode as well! (lol)
Ok so for the second episode. I am glad the writers finally gave a storyline to Arthur Spooner (Jerry Stiller). I was wondering after the first three episodes on what had happened to him. We didn't get to see him often, and in this episode he really commits to his role and becomes his character. As he tries to set up an industry for the elderly to make quick cash. This is hilarious because from something so simple, the writers had made it seem like a huge problem which is reality. At the end of the day, Arthur is alone again and leaves the business of cheating for money...
The other part of the storyline in this episode was between Deacon's son & Doug. Now from the very beginning we find out that Doug has agreed to take care of Deacon's son while Deacon and his wife leave for a weekend holiday. And as soon as the idea arises, Carrie jumps up and tries throughout the episode to try and find any other way to exit this torture which will be put on them and become their responsibility for the whole weekend. And finally at the end of the episode, Doug's character tries his best to get the love of Deacon's son back. And it never worked...
What I love about this series is that they evenly manage the lines & proportions given to each of the cast members. They are not complicated & are straight-forward. The jokes are hilarious and unique and the cast is spectacular! I would rank these episodes as good as the premier last week, and hope that even though there was a slight dip in the ratings this week, that it picks up again next week! Thanks for reading everyone & feel free to leave any comments!
Take Care
