TV Hot Spot: The O.C.

The O.C. Episode 5: The Sleeping Beauty

Review by: Sal

Hey everyone. I am welcoming a new show again to the TV Hot Spot list of shows. And this will go to the critically acclaimed series "The O.C." which is now running on its 4th season. Most of you who watch it, or dont watch it, will know by now that this show has been suffering over the years, especially since season 3. The ratings have dropped by a massive amount and the debut of "The O.C." season 4 marked it lowest ratings yet. The reason I still watch the show is because I have watched it from the very beginning and have promised to myself that I would atleast watch it to the very end, which will most likely be at the end of this current season. Ratings for this weeks episode was was a 2.4/4, or in other words 3.5 Million Viewers. This is down from last week, and the show doesn't look like it is going to survive another season. So I shall now begin with my review...

A storyline I have not liked so far is Summer turning into the activist that she is now. The writers fail to see that many fans loved the old Summer who used to shop and make cute and funny remarks, and I for once would not like to see the show end knowing that Summer will continue with the way she is now. I hope the writers do see this as a negative and quickly change her back to who she was before. At the beginning of the season I thought that there would be ways the writers could at least save the show some dignity and get the ratings back up high. But after 5 long episodes, I dont see this happening anytime soon...

Later on in the episode we find out that Summer might be getting kicked out of Brown. Being betrayed by the activist leader she once liked as a friend. I hope that this means she will be returning to Newport and so her and Seth could be together (Finally). I disliked the fact that they made the season start 6 months after Marrisa's death because it left the fans confused about what happened to the characters...The writers are slowly trying to show us this, by each episode, but it fails to be working!

Now, raise your hand if you saw the Taylor/Ryan thing coming! Yup me too. I could see this one coming from a mile away, at first I didnt like the idea at all and thought it was a foolish way for the writers to fill up the episodes with meaningless things. But now I can actually see it happening. Obviously we were left with Ryan actually feeling something at the end of the kiss he shared with Taylor, so I am guessing this episode marked the beginning of a new relationship! (Oh and Shai also supports it, and apologizes she isnt here for this particular review).

Another storyline pushed in here was the surprise seperation of Mr. Roberts, and Julie Cooper. This causes Julie to go out with numerous guys while her daughter watches on the sidelines. The writers did do one thing right and was made me realise and feel for Kaitlin basically because her mother sees her as invisible. And at the end of the episode it was finally time to see Julie realise that. I feel that the writers could do so much with Kaitlin, and I am just waiting for them to realise that and actually have an awesome episode.

Final thoughts on the whole episode, and series for that matter. Even though the ratings mean that this would probably be the last season we see of "The O.C.", I would seriously hate to see it go. I was once a die-hard fan back in the glory days of this series, but now sadly I see the characters fading in each episode. I just hope that the writers give this show a decent send-off, and give us fans a few good epsiodes. Thanks for reading everyone, and Comments will be appreciated!

Take Care
