TV Hot Spot: Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty Episode 10: Fake Plastic Snow

Review by: Sal

Hi everyone. This is my second review for the month of December, and the honour will go to "Ugly Betty". A show that was highly talked about before its start and is now one of the top shows of the season. Last week we saw a slight spill in the ratings for this show, mainly because it was thanksgiving. This week, the 10th episode, the show has given the ABC network a promising number of viewers. This episode ranked a 9.0/14, which means around 13.3 Million Viewers. This is up by around 4.5 Million from last week which is amazing. The show has really brought in the viewers and since ABC ran it for a full season order, I am sure we will be seeing much more of this hilarious comedy.

Starting off with the review, we see that the latest news of an addition to the cast is true. Henry, who plays an accountant at MODE magazine is in this episode and looks like he will be continuing his role in the next few episodes as well. Betty has a dream, that her and Henry kiss. Now, I like her relationship with Henry because he looks like the odd yet funny guy at the office. Geeky, but to Betty he is cute. They go well together, and I would like to see them interact more so that I could see if he or Walter is good enough for Betty. Walter, does love Betty, but Betty is unsure that she loves him back the same way.

Next. Daniel tells Betty to go and work for Sophia. And what Betty has to do is find the perfect replacement to take her job and be Daniel's new secretary. When Amanda hears about the new opening she is determined to show Betty that she deserves the job. She plans the whole christmas office party by herself and even protects Daniel from any other hoochie who comes in his way. Now, firstly with Daniel, I was quite surprised that he wanted to move forward in his relationship with Sophia so fast. I dont think the way to prove to her your ready is by proposing so quickly. I think Daniel should wait a bit, and by the way he was acting around those underwear Models, I think he needs a few more weeks or even months to get things straight before he commits!

Amanda surprised me actually. She really wanted the job, and I wanted her to get it for some reason. The ring got stuck on her finger which was funny, and her character is hilarious. But I think the writers give us a tiny hint that Amanda still has feelings for Daniel, or maybe she has finally gotten over her feelings now that Daniel is ready to settle down. Whether it be one or the other, we will definetely find out in the upcoming episodes. Another character, I wanted to touch upon is Marc. It was funny when he thought Wilhelmina wanted to get rid of him, and ran away from her only to find out in the end, she wanted his silence and gave him a new hummer to keep him quiet. Which worked!

And finally, seeing as it is a Christmas episode the writers had to include some 'holiday spirit' into the script. Daniel saying goodbye to Betty, who is going for her new job. Wilhelmina getting a surprise visit from the westerner Ted. Hilda inviting Gina into her home for Christmas as they exchange make-up tips. Although, one tiny thing they left us with, was the kiss shared between Henry and a model. Betty was furious and walked out...but it was a mistake....

Final thought on the episode. Better than the last. This time it was more interesting to watch. I liked the little stroylines each character had in their own way, and we had a look into each of their lives. Looks like Betty's father, Ignacio, is under watch by the imigration officers. I honestly hope Betty will forgive Henry, because Betty knows how she feels about him. Her palms get sweaty! Which means she knows he is the 'one'. Whether or not the writers will let this happen is up to them. But until next weeks episode. Thanks for reading!

Take Care
