TV Hot Spot: The O.C.
The O.C. Episode 6: The Summer Bummer
Review by: Sal
Hey guys! I am your TV Hot Spot Host, Sal, and I am about to review the latest episode of "The O.C." which is their sixth this season. Over the past few episodes, I have had my various judgements on this season so far. And as the episodes pass by, I am liking the season more and more. This latest episode, which I just watched was one of the funniest I have seen so far. It was packed with humour, from the vert start to the very end. But before I can go on with the review, I will start off with the ratings of this episode. This episode brought in a rating of 3.0/5 which means around 4.5 Million Viewers. This was the highest rated episode so far this season. Remember their premiere brought in only 3 Million Viewers, so the writers are definetly doing something right. More into the ratings, another reason for "The O.C." doing so well this week is because Grey's Anatomy is on repeats. So we will have to give it a few weeks before finally deciding if this series can hold on to its viewers or not.
So lets start with the review, by looking at the opening. Which in this episode is an important one. Ryan begins to have fantasies which include Taylor. Now I couldn't say this at first, but after watching Taylor's performance in the past couple of episodes, she has now become my second favourite character! (First being Summer). The writers have somehow managed to replace the image of Marissa in a matter of episodes. Of course, knowing that the season started 6 months after Marissa's death helped viewers to understand this better. So back to Ryan, ever since Taylor kissed him in the episode before he couldnt help but think of her. Non-stop. It seems like Ryan has developed a bit of a crush. And this is where I like the writers even more. They don't make Ryan jump in automatically. They actually make it more realistic in that he isn't ready for a relationship. And it was funny to see Taylor being honest about it too. She stated that only because she wanted to get it on with Ryan, doesnt mean that they are bound together for life. Which was one of the many funny lines of the episode.
Another character I wanted to talk about was Kaitlin. In my last review I stated that the writers could do alot with her, and create numerous storylines. And in this episode we see the writers finally giving Kaitlin something, but it wasn't what I expected. I liked the twist that even though Kaitlin seems like a girl that wants to take over and become Queen Bee of her school, but actually isn't. She threw a whole party just to make a point to another girl who was treating her friends badly. Very unlike the Kaitlin we saw last season. But I like it!
Now for my favourite on-screen couple. Summer & Seth. They were hilarious tonight. The both of them. Line after line. It was so funny. Bravo to the both of them on the acting part. There are a few series out there about teenage drama, with horrible teen actors. But this series is one of the few which I can actually say has great actors & actresses. Summer, was suspended from Brown until the next fall. I kind of expected that after seeing the last episode. And I am so happy that Seth decided not to go to Providence and wait until next fall so that he could go with Summer. If the writers were to make him leave, I would have been quite mad at them. The interaction of this couple is amazing, and I am happy that all of the cast are back in New Port. And not half-way across the world. It was funny, because I thought of that while watching, and Seth said "My Flyer Air Miles just went Platinum!" (lol)
The final cast members that I wanted to talk about are Kirsten & Sandy Cohen, as well as Julie. Julie and her date were such a good addition to the comedy effect of the episode, but the main reason I brough them up was that I loved the ending for Kirten & Sandy, when they were renewing their vows. It was nice of the writers, to add that in even though there was so much chaos and drama going around. There wasn't a huge ceremony or anything, just a cute little moment between the two. It was beautiful.
Final thoughts on the episode. I loved it. I think if the writers continue to make the next episodes as good as this one, that they might gain the number of viewers each week. Good acting, and good writing resulted in a good episode. Again I am a happy fan of this show and am hoping it the best in future episodes. The next episodes will run for a couple of weeks as usual. I dont think the FOX network is expecting it to take a break anytime soon. Remember they only have 16 episodes this season, and it might very well be their last. Thanks for reading guys!
Take Care
