TV Hot Spot: The O.C.

The O.C. 4x08: The Earth Girls Are Easy

Review by: Sal

Hey guys. Well as you can all see the blog site is happening now. We have reached a record number of visitors per day and it is increasing as the days go by which we are all happy about. So thank you to everyone who is visiting and we hope that you enjoy your visit to the blog as we continue to make it more interesting & efficient. So I guess we can start with the ratings for this latest episode. Now "The O.C." had started out badly this fall, and has gradually increased. But this increase has now stopped and it looks like the series has reached its limit for the number of viewers it brings in. The latest episode, which is the 8th for this season, brought in around 4.5 Million Viewers which if you look at the older reviews of the series you can see that the numbers have now become somewhat stable. So I guess with that out of the way I can start with the official review for the episode.

Now for this special mid-season finale, we get to look at each character in more detail. As the writers make it more and more interesting for us viewers to watch, the storylines begin to flow as "The O.C." continues to surprise us week by week. I would also like for all of you to know that the writers have done a very good job at fitting in Taylor and making her a main character in this series. It was smart of the creator to not bring in a new character and just use a recurring one and slide her in to transform into a main one. The transition was easy. I have seen other series, and how they dealt with the loss of their main actors/actresses and most dont fair as well as this series. (Another series includes the hit TV show "Charmed" where the writers killed of Prue's character and pushed in Paige's. How they wrote around that was good.)

In the beginning of this episode, we see that Ryan & Taylor have become closer. If you hear clearly, Ryan even calls Taylor his girlfriend which is a step up in their relationship. The way the director ran this episode was cool as well giving us a look at what happened 7 hours later and then rewinding it back so that we could see the events play out and fall into where they are going to be in 7 hours. The episode circulated around the new '4'. Them being Ryan, Seth, Summer & new Taylor and I have to say that it is doing great so far. The lines and actions that the characters play out is very believable and you could actually picture these 4 as friends. Very different beginnings, with a happy ending....or so we think...Throughout the episode Seth and Ryan slowly find out that Summer has taken a pregnancy test, but I will write about the results in a later paragraph...

Julie and her daughter Kaitlin Cooper. Julie remains the same as always. Looking for an easy way to make a quick buck. Yes she may look smart but something tells me that someone is going to catch up on her little scam and something bad might happen. I still can't believe that after 4 seasons, she hasnt learned not to do something like this, especially in a business where her best friend Kirsten owns and works in. Kaitlin, on the other hand, continues to amaze me. The character I thought she would be is rude and snobby. But she is way far from it. Kaitlin in this series is kind, and cares about things which at the end of season 3 I didn't really see coming. I like the way the writers are playing her out and wish that they continue. I really like her character and am wishing it remains the same.

Ok so now I will talk about two shocker endings. Firstly about the engagement. Before Summer reveals if she is pregnant or not, Seth asks her to marry him which she agrees on. They then find out that Summer is not pregnant and I am not sure if it was just me but Seth & Summer didn't look so sure on their marriage after they found out. Both looked a bit worried, and kind of made us think they had just done a mistake. So can't say much about that, to me personally it looked wrong. I would have thought that if Seth ever did propose, it would be romantic and Seth-like. But I was wrong. We are still not sure of how the two are taking it, or how their family will take it. I guess we just have to wait and see...

And finally, I want to comment on Frank. Now at the very start I knew he had something behind his sleeve. I knew that the writers wouldn't write him in the series finale without giving us something to worry about over the next few weeks. Well I was right. Turns out Frank, is really Frank Atwood. Father of our main character Ryan Atwood which actually is a big shocker. I can't wait to see how this is going to play out and can't wait until the next episode releases so that we can see. I am sure Ryan is not going to like it very much, but I guess we can only wait...

Ok guys. Thanks for reading my review. That is about it I guess. I think I covered all the main parts of the episode. The talented actors & actresses of "The O.C." do deserve much more, and I have to give them credit that the season is getting much better as the episodes go by. Not as good as the old days, but still good enough to keep you watching. So until January, when the new episode will be released, have fun looking at the other reviews on the site as well as the latest news & promos.

Take Care everyone!
