TV Hot Spot: The Knights Of Prosperity
The Knights Of Prosperity 1x01: Pilot
Post by: Sal
Hey everyone. This is your TV Hot Spot Host, Sal and I am about to review the pilot episode for this brand new ABC series which has caused a lot of hype over the past few weeks. The ABC network was unsure about this series, and how it will premiere. At first it was scheduled for a Fall release in October, but that failed when ABC announced it was pushing the premiere date back. We then had no word on solid date until a month ago when the 3rd of January was announced. It aired at 9 PM on wednesday and managed to bring in about 7.2 Million Viewers.
That is a solid number for a premiere date, not a hit as of yet, but not a flop either. It all depends on what those 7 Million people thought about it and if they will continue to watch it as the weeks go by. But for now, I think my part now is to review the pilot, its cast, the writing as well as the main storyline itself. My overall feeling of the series is that its a feel-good one. Not alot of details go into it and you just about accept each character in their own weird way.
We start the episode by looking at Eugene & Francis and their low-paid jobs. Obviously they are not having fun and after seeing a co-worker die of a heart attack while cleaning a toilet, they get an epiphany that this is not what they are supposed to do. Eugene then goes and tries to get a loan to open up his own bar, but without an education, or even a mere knowledge of how to open up his own business he is declined the loan. Him and Francis then sit and gaze as their dreams pass by them.
All of a sudden (And here is where it gets good) they see Mick Jagger on TV and look at his plush apartment. There, they come up with the idea of robbing him. I like the concept of these average guys trying to rob this celebrity without any background of criminal activities whatsoever. Eugene goes around asking people to join his group, because he cant do it on his own and forms a group called "The Knights Of Prosperity". Apparently to them, robbing Mick Jaggers place is like stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Sort of like robin-hood, but no tights (lol).
The cast members in this series are good, they get the job done and play their characters right. In some series you have people who annoy you slightly, but not in this one. For me, the characters were well chosen and I can't wait to see what they scheme up with next. It's good to see Donal Logue in a new series, I liked him in "Grounded For Life" and I feel that this role suits him perfectly.
So thats all from me today. Look out for many more reviews of your favourite shows as the day goes by, brought to you of course by myself, Shai, & Nas. Thanks for reading & your comments will be appreciated. I just hope that the ratings stick for this series, because with ABC's record of comedy series they don't last very long...
Take Care!
