Actor Kiefer Sutherland was sentenced Wednesday to 48 days in the Glendale city jail in connection with a misdemeanor drunk driving charge and began serving his sentence the same day.

Sutherland, 40, also was ordered to spend five years on probation, complete an 18-month alcohol program and six months of weekly therapy sessions, and pay a $510 fine.

"There will be no early release and no good time work time. He will serve the entire sentence," said Nick Velasquez, a Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman.

Sutherland reported to the jail shortly before 6 p.m., was issued an orange jump suit, and was signed up for kitchen and laundry duty, Glendale police said. Sutherland received 30 days in connection with a September arrest in West Los Angeles for having a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or above.

The remaining 18 days involve a probation violation from a 2004 DUI case, Velasquez said.

Assistant City Atty. Dan Jeffries said both sides agreed that Sutherland would serve his time at the Glendale jail rather than an overcrowded county lockup. As a result, he will spend all 48 days behind bars, he said.

In 2004, the actor who plays counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer on Fox TV's "24" was sentenced to five years' probation and 50 hours of community service and ordered to complete an alcohol program in connection with a prior DUI arrest.

Take Care,

Sal
