Wayans Commit 'Felony' with VH1!

VH1 will take another shot at scripted comedy, teaming up with the Wayans family for its latest effort.

Keenen Ivory Wayans and brothers Shawn and Marlon are executive producing a pilot called "The Life and Times of Marcus 'Felony' Brown," a show about a rising hip-hop star. The brothers will remain behind the camera for the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Darius McCrary ("Transformers," "Family Matters") will play the title role, a hard-core rapper who moves from New York to Los Angeles to record his second album, bringing his entourage with him. The pilot also stars Jon Abrahams ("Scary Movie"), Vince Green ("Save the Last Dance"), Toni Trucks ("Barbershop"), Marcello Thedford ("ER," "Playmakers") and Affion Crockett ("The Boondocks").

Shawn and Marlon Wayans developed the idea with producing partner Rick Alvarez. They will all serve as executive producers with Keenen Ivory Wayans and Lisa Suzanne Blum.

Xavier Cook, who penned the Wayans vehicle "White Chicks," wrote the pilot script, and Marcus Raboy ("Friday After Next") is directing.

VH1 has a somewhat spotty record with scripted series. The Tori Spelling vehicle "So NoTORIous" got decent reviews but lasted just one season, while "I Hate My 30s" and "Acceptable TV" came and went with little fanfare.

Take Care,

Sal
