TV Hot Spot: Ugly Betty
Ugly Betty Episode 9: Lose The Boss?
Review by: Sal
Yes, TV is being slow these days. Seeing as alot of shows have been going on their usual mid-season breaks. In this case, Ugly betty has around 2 more episodes, (i think), before they finally wrap up until a few months later. It wasnt very smart of ABC, to put this series on this particular night, seeing as it was thanksgiving! Ratings for all networks were down. So in this case, Ugly Betty revieced a 5.3/11. Which accumulates to around 8.7 Million Viewers. Although for some this would seem like alot, it isnt. For a show which ranks in alot of viewers, it actually lost more than half on this particular night. So lets get on with the review...
I have to say, at first that the show was very thanksgiving/family oriented. Which I liked actually. I thought it went well with the theme they were aiming for, and it was actually a well rounded episode. They didnt include drama (besides the end which I will get to shortly), and only included normal family issues. Betty is a smart individual, so I liked how she was given an episode to really shine through and show her real talents. Of course being given an excellent job opportunity by Sophia at her own magazine was even a bigger surprise. I wouldnt really like to see Betty move from MODE magazine, but if that means she would be going up the career ladder, then why not? She deserves it and it clearly shows in this episode...
Another thing, is Willamina. In this episode her and her assistant spend the whole day together. And I found it amusing, because I for one have always liked Vanessa Williams, and she plays this character great. It was a comedic thing to put them together for the whole episode and it worked out well. My best part was when they confronted those two women who were 'working the streets'. That was hilarious.
I, for one, dont like Justin's father. And I thought it was a great thing that he finally got kicked out. He was annoying me and the guy playing his character annoyed me. He couldnt accept the way his son was, and so he ticked everyone off. And speaking about that, lets hop on to Daniel. I loved, loved, loved the fact that they made him look like a human being for once and not this big shot who sleeps around. The writers gave him a heart, and he slowly grew fond of the Suarez family.
Like I said, it was a good family episode. Very good feeling throughout. The part about Chutney the baby, was hilarious as well because it is so realistic. Alot of celebrities these days are booking a magazine to show off their new baby. (Tom & Katie). So even though the episode didnt do as well in the ratings, it still ranked high to me. Of course, they couldnt end an Ugly Betty episode with a hint of drama. And we get that at the end, when the immigration officers come to take Betty's father 'downtown'. Which I HATED! Because its HOLIDAYS! Who is ARRESTING PEOPLE during the holidays?!?!
Anyway. Thats all from me for now. Look out for the latest trailers above. And keep your posts coming. I am Sal, your TV Hot Spot Host.
Take care
