TV Hot Spot: King Of Queens

King Of Queens Episode 1 & 2 (Season 9): Mama Cast & Affair Trade

Review by: Sal

Hey everyone. Again we introduce another show to the TV Hot Spot family, "King Of Queens". I have watched this show on and off, and whenever it came on TV and laughed at every bit. And before I start with the ratings, or the review itself I just wanted to say bravo to Leah (Carrie) & Kevin (Doug) on their 9th season. 9 seasons for a comedy show is something, most shows don't get to see past 1! But this show managed to touch the hearts of many and still delivers and excellent amount of viewers while doing so. In this whole 1 hour premiere, Doug & Carrie have made me and many others laugh and can't wait to get more of it. So now that I have said that, I think I can go on with the ratings first.

The one-hour premiere, featured two episodes ofcourse. Both averaging around 6.5/11 for the 8 pm hour. If we break this down, this would show us that the first episode got around 9.5 Million Viewers, and the second episode boosted to around 10.2 Million Viewers. So excellent start. Although some have said this was down from their last season premiere, others (and myself) have praised it. You don't see a good comedy these days, and most of them even though they are funny they dont include the comedic effect like this series has. "King Of Queens" has proven to be a good addition for CBS on wednesdays, while their other comedies like "The Class" seem to be giving some dissapointing ratings on Monday's.

Ok so all of that has been cleared up. I guess I can start reviewing the episodes. Episode 1 (Mama Cast) was hilarious. Carrie wants Doug to go and invest into something, and we see him buying an Ice Cream Truck. Was it me, or did that job suit him? (lol). Throughout his journey as an Ice-Cream man, the writers press in some very funny lines as well as a good setting at the same time. Making a rival ice-cream truck come in, just put the cherry on top of the cake. And while Doug was batteling his own demons, Carrie on the other hand was 'acting' as a housewife and mother. A bunch of actors are hired to act like a normal family, so that buyers would be more motivated to buy the house because they can picture themselves when they see a 'family' living there. The actress hired for the mother position failed to come, and so Carrie was put up to the job. Again through this journey, the writers show Carrie not caring at first but as the days go by she eventually stands up for the role of 'Mom' a bit too much.

The whole of the first episode was filled with laughs, and Doug & Carrie managed to keep the audience interested and still be funny even though they weren't together for the whole episode. And, so that it would be even funnier, at the end of the episode we see that the rival ice-cream truck was the same guy who sold Doug the other ice-cream truck and that it was all a Con just to get more money. That was good and I am glad to see that the writers still come up with fresh ideas like this one, and still make it funny. Ok so now for the second episode's review.

In the second episode, we get to see more of the cast. Doug's friends Spencer and Danny had their own storyline (Which I will get to) and Doug & Deacon had their own little storyline. Carrie and her friend Kelly were in the mix as well as the writers take us on another funny journey. In this episode a mysterious girl named 'Jessica' mistakes Doug for another Doug and leaves him a hot voicemail message on his phone. From what started out as a little joke then became serious as this mysterious girl calls more. Doug thought he could fool around a little, but to his surprise Jessica called even more. Carrie then finds out, and the writers make us laugh once again as how Doug tries to stop her from finding out. But in the end, she does and it turns into an even bigger mess. Spencer & Danny on the other hand have a little side-storyline where Spencer is interested in a waitress. To be honest, I know the writers wanted to include them in but I seriously so no point. It was just an addition to the episode which I guess was a little break from watching the other storyline.

Final thoughts on both episodes. Hilarious. I loved them both, and watched them to the end. The whole 40 something minutes was packed with funny lines and great acting from both Carrie and Doug. The writers do it again, and because of that they managed to score big in the ratings. Hopefully in the next coming episodes they will manage to do the same. But for now, thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments!

Take care!
