Soft ratings for Christmas Eve didn't keep CBS from dominating once again on Sunday.
CBS averaged an 5.8 rating/13 share for the night, beating out NBC's 2.8/6. ABC's 2.5/6 edged out FOX's 2.3/5 for third, leaving the CW in last at 1.0/2.
Among adults 18-49, CBS' 2.5 rating led the way again. NBC took second in the coveted demo wiht a 1.6, just ahead of FOX's 1.4. ABC followed with a 1.2, with the CW trailing with a 0.5.
CBS kicked off the night at 7 p.m. with its late-ending NFL coverage bringing in a 9.4/23. ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" took second with a 3.0/8, while NBC's "Football Night in America" was third in households (1.7/4). FOX's repeat of "American Dad" and beginning of "Spider-Man 2" averaged a 1.6/4 for the hour, while once again the CW brought up the rear with its "Reba" repeats (1.0/3)
The eye network took the lead again in the 8 o'clock hour with "60 Minutes" and the beginning of "Cold Case" drawing a 5.8/13. FOX and ABC duked it out with the "Spidey" movie and a repeat of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" bringing a 2.6/6 and 2.5/6, respectively. NBC's first hour of the classic "It's a Wonderful Life" averaged a 2/3/6, while the CW's repeat of "7th Heaven" only managed a 0.9/2.
At 9 p.m. CBS slipped slightly with its "Cold Case" and "A Very Merry Christmas" combo taking a 4.3/10. Over on NBC, George Bailey was on his discovering his importance in the world to the tune of 2.8/6, while FOX's contining webslinging adventures drew a 2.7/6. On ABC, the "Desperate Housewives" took a 2.3/5, while the "7th Heaven" gang improved marginally to 1.1/3.
At 10 p.m., George finally triumphed when he discovered that Clarence was right about "It's a Wonderful Life," ending the night at 3.6/8, with the "Very Merry" CBS action on its heels with 3.5/8. ABC finished with a repeat of "Brothers & Sisters" at 2.1/5.
On Saturday, ABC's airing of "The Sound of Music" dominated with a 2.7/9, well ahead of FOX, 2.0/7, NBC, 1.8/6, and CBS, 1.2/4.
