"Lipstick Jungle" star Brooke Shields left a Los Angeles hospital on Friday on crutches following a foot surgery she underwent to correct a chronic foot injury she sustained while performing on stage.

Her NBC dramedy will return in September for a 2nd season, in a new timeslot Wednesdays at 10:00pm.

'LipStick Jungle' Renewed for 2nd Season!

NBC is expected to confirm this afternoon that they are renewing the Candace Bushnell dramedy "Lipstick Jungle" for a second season. The series may therefore be the winner in the "cashmere war" among "Sex and the City" wannabes.

Over its 7-week run "Lipstick Jungle" averaged 6.85 million viewers on Thursdays at 10pm and currently ranks 98th on the season-to-date chart. ABC's "Cashmere Mafia" averaged 6.13 million viewers on Wednesdays at 10pm and ranks 125th.

Although ABC insiders declined comment, "Cashmere Mafia" is not expected to make the cut for a fall renewal. Its poor ratings were actually somewhat inflated by the pilot episode which aired after the last episode of "Desperate Housewives" in January.

The season finale of "Mafia" scored a little over 5 million viewers, while "Lipstick Jungle" managed to lure over 7 million viewers.

Write On for 'Lipstick Jungle'!

"Lipstick Jungle" won't be filming any more episodes this season, but its writers are going back to work.

NBC has ordered six more scripts for the dramedy series, which is based on "Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell's novel about three powerful New York women. The order comes with an eye toward next season, the showbiz trade papers say, offering a glimmer of hope that "Lipstick Jungle" could survive into the fall.

The show, which stars Brooke Shields, Lindsay Price and Kim Raver, finished seven episodes before the writers' strike began and will not go back into production for this season. Its finale is scheduled for Thursday, March 20.

Through its first three episodes, "Lipstick Jungle" is averaging about 6.4 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49. Those are hardly stellar numbers, but with the strike compressing the normal pilot season and NBC talking about being in original programming year-round, the network may need all the options it can get.

On the bright side, "Lipstick" does draw a bigger audience than the other show with "SATC" in its DNA, ABC's "Cashmere Mafia." It's averaging about 5.7 viewers per week.

NBC has applied more "Lipstick Jungle," ordering six more scripts of the midseason drama.

After three segs, "Lipstick" has averaged a 2.6 rating and 7 share among adults 18-49. Show is tops in its Thursday night 10 p.m. slot with women 18-49 and women 18-34.

"Lipstick Jungle" stars Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price as high-profile, powerful women in New York juggling their careers and personal lives. Series is based on Candace Bushnell's book of the same name.

Oliver Goldstick exec produces "Lipstick," along with Bushnell and Timothy Busfield. Universal Media Studios is behind the show.

TV Guide: Were you looking to do something lighter?

Kim Raver: Definitely. I did Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller and I had so much fun doing com­edy. This was a perfect combination of what I loved about doing 24 and The Nine and what I loved about Night at the Museum.

TV Guide: There are the inevitable comparisons to Sex and the City and Cashmere Mafia. What makes Lipstick Jungle unique?

Raver: Candace [Bushnell] put it really succinctly that in Sex and the City the wom­en are looking for Mr. Big and in Lipstick Jungle they are Mr. Big.

TV Guide: Will the clothes be as important as they were in Sex and the City?

Raver: In Sex and the City I felt like they were a character in themselves, and in our show they accentuate who these people are. And you want the clothes. The accessories are just insane. The bags and the shoes and the jewelry, you just want every piece that you see.

TV Guide: What's the camaraderie been like?

Raver: You hear about all these stories of these kinds of catfights [elsewhere] and the stereotypes of women tearing each other down, but I feel so fortu­nate.... The chemistry between us is re­ally amazing.

TV Guide: Do you and Brooke Shields bring your kids to the set?

Raver: Oh yeah, it's un­believable. The hair and makeup trailer in the morning — it's like daycare.

TV Guide: Wikipedia claims your career started on Sesame Street. Is this true?

Raver: It is. [Laughs] I was 6. I was 5 when they asked me, but I wasn't old enough, so I had to wait a year. I just loved it. I don't consider myself a child actress in that sense. It was so enjoyable and so much fun to be able to interact with all the characters. It was a big family.

Ausiello: Cancel Cashmere, but let Lipstick linger a few more weeks. Or at the very least through tomorrow's episode, which features both a rollicking guest turn by Lorraine Bracco and an adulterous Kim Raver having sex with a half-naked Robert Buckley. BURBANK, Calif. – November 28, 2007 – NBC's new dramedy "Lipstick Jungle," based on the best-selling novel by Candace Bushnell (who also wrote the book "Sex and the City") – and starring Brooke Shields ("Suddenly Susan"), Kim Raver ("24") and Lindsay Price ("Beverly Hills, 90210") – will premiere on Thursday, February 7 (10-11 p.m. ET).

The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, as well as by the starring trio who appeared during NBC's live broadcast of "Christmas at Rockefeller Center" special on November 28.

"This provocative new series is a fun, sexy look at strong women in New York City," said Silverman. "We are very excited about Candace Bushnell's larger-than-life characters -- as embodied by its perfect cast -- that has made 'Lipstick' a highly anticipated event since the network acquired the best-selling book."

It's a jungle out there. Dress accordingly. Based on the best-selling book by Candace Bushnell (author of "Sex and the City"), the enticing new dramedy follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game. Nico (Raver), editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, has her eye on becoming CEO. Movie exec Wendy (Shields) does everything she can to balance career and family. And free-spirited designer Victory (Price) longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way. Armed with humor and strength, these three modern New York women support one another through the triumphs and tears that are all part of making it big in the Big Apple.

Also starring are Andrew McCarthy ("The Joy Luck Club"), Julian Sands ("24"), David Alan Basche ("United 93"), David Norona ("Frasier") and Paul Blackthorne ("Big Shots").

"ER" will continue in the Thursdays (10-11 p.m. ET) time slot through January when the Emmy Award-winning drama series completes its current run of original episodes.

The series is executive-produced by Oliver Goldstick ("Ugly Betty"), Timothy Busfield (NBC's "The West Wing") and Bushnell. Based on the book by Bushnell, "Lipstick Jungle" is from Universal Media Studios. The pilot is directed by Gary Winick ("13 Going on 30").

NBC is bringing up a show called "Lipstick Jungle". Here is the description & trailer below. Both shows of ABC & NBC will be premiering in Mid-season which means most likely January. So get the handbags ready, because its WAR!

Lipstick Jungle, another hit novel by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, is headed for the small screen. While Sex and the City followed the exploits of four single women looking for love in New York, Lipstick Jungle tracks three powerful career women who are willing to do almost anything for success in the business world. Their thirst for achievement is sure to get them where they want to go--but at what personal cost?

The series is produced by NBC Universal Television Studio. The series has been given a 13-episode initial order by the NBC Television Network.
