'Tudors' Reign Continues at Showtime!

Henry VIII is only on its second wife in the timeline of "The Tudors," so there's plenty more story left to tell. Showtime agrees.

The pay-cable network has picked up the Golden Globe-nominated show for a third season, it announced Tuesday (April 22). Production is scheduled to begin in June for a 2009 premiere.

"'The Tudors' is now a fixture for us at Showtime, and we're on our way to completing the entire saga of all six wives of Henry VIII," says Robert Greenblatt, head of Showtime Entertainment. "We are enormously proud of this show, the extraordinary cast, and the production team that recreates the grandeur of the Renaissance year in and year out."

The current season of "The Tudors" focuses on the marriage of Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) and the king's split with the Catholic Church, much to the anger of Pope Paul III (Peter O'Toole). Anne was Henry's second wife, meaning there are four to go before the show reaches the end of its tale.

Showtime keeps its ratings close to the vest, but the season two premiere in March drew 768,000 viewers. That was off by about 12 percent from the series premiere last year, but online viewing made up for that shortfall. Showtime says the premiere, which was available online before it aired was streamed more than a million times on its own site and elsewhere.

Sources have been revealing that "The Tudors" has officially been renewed for a 3rd season. The show is currently airing its 2nd season and is doing quite well in the ratings, which is probably why it got renewed by its network for another season. More official news will be posted here...

A law is passed where every Royal subject must take an oath, on pain of death, recognising the validity of the King's new marriage and the supremacy of Henry VIII in all matters.

Showtime Pleased with 'Tudors,' 'Tracey' Premieres!

The second season premiere of "The Tudors" was off by 12 percent from last year's series launch, but Showtime isn't concerned.

The latest installment in Henry the VIII's (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) ongoing attempts to wed and bed Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) was watched by just over a million viewers in its two Sunday (March 30) night plays.

The first airing of the "Tudors" premiere drew 768,000 viewers, off by the aforementioned 12 percent from the first airing of last season's premiere, but up by 65 percent over the audience for the most recent finale in June.

Showtime isn't worried about those figures because the premium cable giant also tallied roughly a million downloads of the premiere from online platforms including YouTube, Yahoo, MSN and Showtime's online hub. In addition, the episode was made available early for OnDemand viewers.

Showtime is also pleased with the Sunday series premiere of "Tracey Ullman's State of the Union." In its two original hours in the 10 p.m. hour, the comedy series attracted 776,000 viewers, only slightly lower than last year's premiere of the Golden Globe-winning "Californication" (795,000).

Jonathan Rhys Meyers returns to Showtime as bad boy King Henry VIII on March 30th!

Season 2 of The Tudors kicks off on Sunday, March 30th. The premiere begins with Henry and Catherine still not quite divorced, and the nation in upheaval. Multiple Oscar nominee Peter O’Toole, 74, recently joined the cast as Pope Paul III.

The series also received a nomination for this years Golden Globe Awards for Best Drama Series.

'Tudors' Star Arrested for Drunken Behavior!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays Henry VIII on Showtime's "The Tudors," was arrested in Ireland for some not-so royal behavior.

The 30-year-old Irish actor was busted on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 18) at the Dublin airport trying to board a plane to England. He faces charges of drunkeness and breach of the peace, report celebrity news sources.

Rhys Meyers allegedly exhibited erratic, abusive behavior at the airport gate and at the desk for British airline BMI, thus prompting the police to confront the actor and deny him permission to board.

The actor was charged under Ireland's Public Order Act and released on his own bail. He is due in court for his arraignment Dec. 5.

Rhys Meyers has had previous problems with alcohol and went to rehab earlier this year.

He was in Dublin to promote his latest film, "August Rush," which opens nationwide on Wednesday, Nov. 21. His other film credits include "Mission: Impossible III," "Match Point," "Alexander," "Vanity Fair" and "Bend It Like Beckham."

On TV, he's played a king of another sort by starring in the miniseries "Elvis," a role for which he earned a Golden Globe.
