Pilots: Catherine O'Hara, Andie MacDowell to ABC!

A pair of actresses not often seen on television -- Andie MacDowell and Catherine O'Hara -- are making their way to pilots at ABC.

O'Hara is in talks to play the lead role in Rob Thomas' dramedy "Good Behavior," while MacDowell has joined the drama "Prince of Motor City." The latter show has also found its lead actor in "October Road's" Warren Christie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The CW, meanwhile, has added one more face to its "Beverly Hills, 90210" remake.

In "Good Behavior," O'Hara would play the matriarch of a criminal family who's trying to get her offspring (who include Mae Whitman and Patrick Adams) to go straight. It would be the first series-regular role in some time for the former "SCTV" star, who's currently working on the Sam Mendes film "Farlanders."

O'Hara is a member of Christopher Guest's company of actors, having appeared in "For Your Consideration," "A Mighty Wind," "Best in Show" and "Waiting for Guffman." Her credits also include "Home Alone," "Over the Hedge" and a recurring part on "Six Feet Under."

MacDowell, meanwhile, is tackling what would be her first regular TV role in "Prince of Motor City," a "Hamlet"-inspired drama set in the auto industry. She'll play the mother of Christie's character, a Harvard professor who moves back to Detroit to take over his family's car company.

The "Four Weddings and a Funeral" star's credits also include "sex, lies and videotape," " Town & Country" and the CBS movie "Riding the Bus with My Sister." Christie played Ray "Big Cat" Cataldo on "October Road," which is likely done after two meagerly rated seasons on ABC. He's also appeared on "Battlestar Galactica" and "Supernatural."

At The CW, Michael Steger will play a student politician on the "90210" redo. He had a recurring part on FOX's "The Winner" and has guested on "Hannah Montana" and "NCIS."

Veteran Directors Take Pilot Controls!

ABC hasn't done a whole lot of casting on its pilots yet, but it has landed directors for two of its drama projects.

CBS has also filled a director's chair, hiring multiple Emmy winner James Burrows to helm one of its comedy pilots.

At ABC, Gary Fleder ("Runaway Jury," "October Road") is in talks to direct "Finnegan," a crime drama presentation, while Bharat Nalluri ("Life on Mars") will take the reins of Rob Thomas' "Cupid" remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Burrows, meanwhile, will direct "Single White Millionaire" for the Eye.

"Finnegan," written by Trent Jones ("Threat Matrix"), is about the female head of an organize crime and vice squad in the LAPD. The presentation continues a relationship Fleder has with the network; in addition to "October Road," which he also executive produced, he has directed episodes of "The Evidence" and "Blind Justice."

His feature-film credits include "Don't Say a Word" and the upcoming Ernie Davis biopic "The Express."

"Cupid" is a remake of Thomas' 1998 ABC series about a man who believes he's the titular Greek god and tries to bring couples together. Nalluri earned an Emmy nomination last year for HBO's "Tsunami: The Aftermath" and also directed the film "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" and episodes of "MI-5" and "Hustle."

CBS' "Single White Millionaire" is about a wealthy man (Fred Savage) who decides he wants to get married. Burrows, whose much-lauded career stretches back to "Mary Tyler Moore" and "The Bob Newhart Show," currently helms FOX's "Back to You." He also directed the pilot for CBS' "Big Bang Theory" this season.

'October Road,' 'Men in Trees' Seek New Homes!

It doesn't necessarily means that they're on the verge of cancellation, but ABC dramas "October Road" and "Men in Trees" are reportedly seeking new homes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC sent tapes of both bubble shows to Lifetime, but the trade paper says that the cable network has already ruled out picking up either series.

What will be the next option for "October Road" and "Men in Trees"?

"October Road" is in particular danger. After spending its first season in the safe confines of Thursday nights at 10 p.m. after "Grey's Anatomy," frequently drawing over 10 million viewers per episode, the coming-of-age drama moved to ABC's Monday 10 p.m. trouble spot this year. After premiering with just over 6 million viewers, the show has been struggling to reach 5 million viewers in recent weeks and its last two episodes, airing on March 10, averaged a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Fans have already begun the requisite Save-our-Show campaign.

And can anybody say with absolutely certainty what day or time "Men in Trees" is on? It's our job to know and we aren't totally sure. Either blessed or cursed with a seemingly endless supply of episodes in the can, "Men in Trees" has bounced around ABC's schedule as if floating on a whim, delivering a less-than-impressive 1.7 demo rating for its March 12 episode.

Because of its proven scheduling versatility and the show's relative star-power, "Men in Trees" is said to have a better chance of renewal than "October Road."

The final word on both shows won't come down until ABC presents its fall line-up to advertisers at its upfront presentation in May.

Helene in Los Angeles: I heard October Road might be axed. First they took my What About Brian and now this?! Pleeeease say it ain't so.


My best advice is to watch tonight's two-hour finale, because if there's an uptick in the ratings, ABC might consider keeping it around. But I'm also hearing a rumor that both Lifetime and the CW are interested in taking the Road on should ABC cancel it. Cross your fingers that one of these options works out because several castmembers say we won't learn who Sam's daddy is otherwise. Tonight's episode is high stakes, but doesn't provide resolution to the series' major questions.

Nick, Aubrey, Ronnie, Dean, and Owen watch the semi-finals of the Regional Spelling Bee at the Commander's house. Pizza Girl delivers a pizza to Allen Korndorfer, the 14-year-old brother of one of the contestants. Allen has been living in the shadow of his intelligent brother for years and admits to Pizza Girl that he wishes his brother will not win the competition. Physical Phil tells Eddie he should take his relationship with Janet to the next step before she decides to bail. Hannah meets with a lawyer in order to file papers to have Ray adopt Sam. Thing is Sam's father must forgoe his parental rights but Hannah listed no father's name on the birth certiciate. The only way Ray can adopt Sam is if Gavin Goddard does a paternity test and then forgoes his rights...

Episode 2.08 - Dancing Days Are Here Again
Pizza Girl and Physical Phil set up a blind date for Owen. He and Bethany (the date) hit it off until he shows pictures of the kids and admits he is still married but seperated. The Commander goes to the doctor's office to have his back checked out because Leslie wants to go dancing. The test results bring bad news. Nick tries to have Aubrey and her dad reunite.
