Gator Aid Pushes FOX to Monday Title

The inaugural BCS Championship game Monday night was great for fans of Florida and for FOX, which scored a decisive ratings victory.

FOX averaged a 16.0 rating/24 share for the night, drawing better than 26.3 million viewers. That was more than double the 12.49 million who tuned into CBS (8.3/12 in households). NBC took third with a 5.2/8, topping ABC's 4.7/7. The CW finished at 1.4/2.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 9.5 rating led by a wide margin. CBS, 4.2, came in second. ABC finished third with a 2.8, followed by NBC, 2.6, and The CW, 0.8.

The start of the BCS title game between Florida and Ohio State posted a 15.0/22 for FOX at 8 p.m. NBC was a fairly decent second with "Deal or No Deal," 8.9/13. CBS' "How I Met Your Mother," 5.6/8, and "The Class," 5.1/7, tied for third with ABC's "Wife Swap" (CBS had a small edge in total viewers). Reruns of "Everybody Hates Chris" and "All of Us" averaged 1.6/2 for The CW.

FOX's football numbers peaked in the 9 p.m. hour at 17.5/25. CBS moved into second thanks to "Two and a Half Men," 9.6/14, and "The New Adventures of Old Christine," 8.1/12. "Supernanny" posted a 5.5/8 for ABC, while NBC tumbled to fourth with a "Heroes" repeat, 3.8/5. The CW went with reruns of "Girlfriends" and "The Game."

At 10 p.m., the BCS game dipped to 15.6/24 as Florida began to salt away its 41-14 victory. "CSI: Miami" scored a 10.6/17 to keep CBS in second. "What About Brian" was well back in third at 3.4/5, and a second "Heroes" rerun on ABC trailed.
