Brothers & Sisters 1x11: Family Day

Hey guys. Sal here, and I am about to review the latest episode of "Brothers & Sisters". In most series there are some episodes which define the main reason we watch them, and this episode was one of them (big time). The interaction of the characters and great writing was clearly shown in this episode and basically proved to me why I watch this series as a whole. There were laughs as well as tears and a family interaction like no other family drama out there right now. Thumbs up to everyone for a great episode and hopefully their 12th episode will air on the 14th of January, so look out for that.

Ok so the episode brought in around 12.1 Million Viewers, because of the hiatus the number of viewers for series have gone down but it doesn't matter for this series as I hope next week it picks up. It deserves too anyway, many have called it one of TV's under-rated series and should be given more attention. With the right promotion and money spent on this series, it could be the huge hit it is supposed to be. Ok so putting the ratings and introduction aside for now, I guess I can continue with the review for this episode.

The episode looked at different aspects for the Walker Family. Everyone in the episode were arguing with a different family member and watching each of them made me laugh. So to get through this I guess I have to look at each character seperatly. Firstly, Kitty Walker. In this episode she had to choose whether she was finally taking the job she was offered with the senator. Although once Kevin, her brother, heard of this he disagreed completely and insulted the senators views. He argued that if Kitty was to join in the senators team that it would be like a stab in the back. In the end Kitty did take the job, and resolved the issue with Kevin. The whole episode basically focused on everyones problems and sorted them out in their own way...

Sarah, the eldest sister, was having a few problems at home with her husband Joe and her stepson. Sarah caught her stepson taking Vodka to a party and she saw that he was being influenced in a negative way. To stop this she had gone to Joe, who basically made Sarah look like the bad guy at first. But then sorting it out in the end, Sarah and Joe came to terms and agreed to BOTH punish the stepson so that he would hate both of them and not just Sarah for it. I thought this was a good thing which was put in, because for Sarah as a stepmom to ground him would have been unfair. But showing that they both took the blame actually saves Sarah from getting hated...

Thom (Thomas) Walker, was mixed in this episode with his mother Norah, his dads mistress Holly Harper, and his uncle Saul. If you guys remember, during the last episode Holly wanted to spend the money she got from Thomas's father's death to buy stock of their company. And in this episode she actually asked for an office and stated that she wanted to be apart of the company as a whole. When Nora heard this, she quickly jumped to the same conclusion and demanded an office as well. The two end up sharing an office, and while Nora is trying to play the little game of competing she and everyone else notices that Holly is determined in the job and actually offers some good ideas. In the end of the episode, Nora realises that the whole plot of her joining the company was a silly idea and actually has some good lines in the episode as well.

Final family member. Justin Walker. The youngest of all the Walker children and the most screwed up one. In this episode we see that Justin is in rehab. Remember last episode he was given a 6 month break before he would have to report for war in Iraq. So while being home he has to attend Rehab which he looks really determined with. But during the whole episode, everyone who visits him from the family seems to give him more and more of their own problems instead of talking to Justin. Justin gets fed up and lets each and everyone of them know how he really feels which opens up most of their eyes and causes all of them to resolve their issues with each other.

The end result. Even though you have a screwed up family as this one, you still love eachother at the end of it. I love the message that the writers sends out to the viewers and I for one cant wait for the next episode to air. Shai even stated that this series has now turned into her favourite show this fall and I am beginning to agree with her. The cast is excellent and this episode is the perfect example of why I watch the series and why others should watch the series if they already dont. Thanks for reading everyone!
